Hey Dale, love your show. This is Earl from Dumas. Got a few questions for you today about several Razorbacks sports. I’ll hit you with them all real fast like a hot knife through butter and then hang up and listen.
How in the heck is Cal favored by 4 against Ole Miss tonight when we got beat by Tennessee by 24, and then they lost to Florida by 30? Aren’t we about to get boat-raced?
What’s up with this College Football Playoff? Why did all the games suck? Who do you think is going to win it all? And when are the Hogs going to make the cut?
If I’m all down on football and basketball already, surely you’ve got something good to tell me about what Coach DVH has cooking for them OmaHogs?
Can you tell me what to expect out of the Hogs Gymnastics squad this year? My wife, Loretta, she's pitching a hissy fit with a tail on it ‘cus we may not get to watch the opening match with us driving home from the basketball game and all Saturdee afternoon.
Okay. I think I’m done. Thanks. Bye.
Earl de Dumas, thanks for calling in. You’ve certainly got quite a bit on your mind. Let’s see if I can hit the high points here and attempt to answer all of your questions.
Basketball - Man it’s a funny sport. It’s the one where David can easily beat Goliath because of the three-point shot. But here, we’re talking about a whole conference of Goliaths. I think homecourt advantage is going to be huge this season. Kentucky also go beat on the road by Georgia last night. Arkansas is 8-2 in the last 10 games in the series versus Ole Miss. I expect them to win tonight against the #23 Rebels and leave more people scratching their heads about how the SEC really ranks.
Football - Yes, the first year of the expanded playoff hasn’t been much to watch, but I think the games this week will be better. I think the committee has to do a better job of seeding and reconsider sending teams to play up north in the frigid cold in the opening round. I think most of those games would have been within 1 score if played at a neutral-site indoors. 9-degree windchill is for the birds (and I would know since we are currently experiencing it).
And I think it will be quite some time before Arkansas is able to make it into the playoff. The committee showed this year they weren’t willing to seed a 3-loss team, and unfortunately that’s probably the best we can hope for in the foreseeable future.
Baseball - The Arkansas Baseball team is in great shape. The latest polls came out this week and we are preseason #13. Last year the team went 44-16 and reloaded in recruiting and transfer portal editions. The team opens the season against Washington State on February 14th. If you haven’t gotten Mrs. Loretta a gift yet, you might consider taking her on a date to the diamond.
Gymbacks - They are poised for another great season under coach Jordyn Wieber (and current Fox reality show “Special Forces: World's Toughest Test” competitor). They are currently ranked 8th in the nation and open season competition in a neutral-site tournament in Oklahoma City this weekend that’s being televised on ESPN 2. They will have their first competition in Fayetteville on January 24th against LSU. It’s a family-friendly environment and one I’d highly recommend any of our listeners checking out.
Hopefully that covered it all Dale. You’ve got to love when one rabid fan takes up all of the first segment of our radio show. We’ll be back after this short break where you hear more from our sponsors.
Hummm Radio Show!?!?!
Probably should look into that.
I’m sure that Rannnndy would welcome some good ole boys with the research and stat skills of Ronald Fisher.
Yep, something to think about when we’re in commercial break while we’re kicking Ole Piss’ arse tonight.
