I hate Kentucky basketball. I go into most Arkansas Razorbacks games with as critical an eye as I possibly can. While, I’ll love the Hogs until I die, I try to keep myself on an even keel.
But when I see that goofy ass “U” and “K” at half court on the floor in a building memorializing a dude named Adolph, all that flies out the window.
I get petty. I get vulgar. I get unhinged. I have a toddler’s emotional regulation and dark web levels of conspiracies.
The inverse is also true. There is nothing sports related that brings me as much joy as a win over the Wildcats. I don’t think my voice ever fully recovered from how I screamed after the Michael Qualls dunk.
SEC play has not gone the way I thought it would, but none of that matters now. We can go winless the rest of the way, and I’ll still call this a successful year. Beating Kentucky—the clear kings of SEC basketball—just means more.
And before a bunch of Bluegrass buffoons hit my mentions talking about being our Super Bowl, let me say two things. 1) You’re right. You are. Especially this year. But we were also very clearly yours. 2) In addition to being enamored with beating you, I also love a good story.
The story of this one was fantastic. Pure human drama. The coach you ran off came back to beat you. The coach you booed came back to silence you. The coach with the archaic offense came back to hang almost 90 on you while stifling your “electric” offense.
The national media might enjoy a story like that.
John Calipari boosted his stock with Hog fans tonight too. We saw how they booed you, and you shut them up. It was pretty dope, Cal. We also saw what this team could look like if they maintained their defensive intensity, but a few more shots went in. We liked that too!
Soak this one up, Cal! You’ve earned it.
Congratulations to the Arkansas Razorbacks—2025 Rupp Arena Super Bowl Champions.
